President Obama has just signed an executive order creating a separate federal office for African-American public school students. The intent seems to be to enhance educational opportunities for blacks by paying special attention to their needs as students. Some have questioned the exclusivity of the office by noting that educational initiatives found to benefit African-Americans would benefit all students as well. Therefore shouldn’t the office be concerned with enhancing the effort of all students in the public schools rather than singling out one group for special consideration? Or is the new office even needed? Others have questioned whether or not this is simply a bold effort to capture the African-American voting bloc in the coming election. What do you think? Comment please.
COH please.
